| Açıklama | May 9, 2001 CRYSTALINE ATOMIC STRUCTURES Introduction: The physical structure of solid materials of engineering importance depends on the arrangements of the atom, ions or the molecules, which make up the solid and the bonding forces between them. If the atoms or the ions of a solid are arranged in a pattern that repeat itself in three dimensions, they form a solid which is a crystal structure and is referred to as a crystalline solid or crystalline material. Some examples to crystalline materials are metals, alloys and some ceramic materials. Atomic arrangements in crystalline solids can de described by referring the atoms to the points of intersection of a network of lines in three dimensions. Such a network is called a “space lattice”. It can also be described as an infinite three-dimensional array of points. Each point in the space lattice has identical surroundings. In an ideal crystal the grouping of lattice points about any given point are identical with the grouping about any other lattice point in the crystal lattice. Each space lattice can be described by specifying the atom positions in a repeating unit cell. The size and shape of a unit cell can be described by three lattice vectors a, b and c. The axial lengths a, b and c and the interaxial angles a, b and g are lattice constants of the unit cell. Crystal System And Bravais Lattices: By assigning specific values for axial lengths and interaxial angles, unit cells of different types can be constructed. Crystallographers have shown that only seven different types of unit cells are necessary to create all point lattices. Many of the seven crystal systems have variations of basic unit cell. A. J.
