| Açıklama | CURRENT ISSUES IN ETHNİC CONFLİCT MANAGEMENT SUBJECT:NORTHERN IRELAND AND UK SUBMİTTED TO: EBRU İLTER BY CENK ANAÇ OKTAY KIZILDAŞ INDEX CURSE OF IRISH IRELAND The conflict that has been surviving for hundred of years in Ireland named as the longest war of the world by some historians. Northern Ireland has 13.438 km2 area. The Ulster region has 9 countries and six of them formed Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland was governed by the “home rule” system between 1921-1968. In 1968, England intervened to the island because of the chaos in island. In 1973 Northern Ireland became part of England as the result of referendum. In Northern Ireland, there was an unequal system till 1960s. In 1832, only %1 of the Catholic adults had voted. In 1918, this ratio was %44. At the end of 19th century, the right of being landowner was given to the Catholics. The divided education system is also a factor that intensify this conflict. This system gives children two different worlds and creates hostility. A big part of Catholics support the republican (movement which is against the British existence on the Northern Ireland and existence of two different country in island) and nationalist movements.
